March 2010
Well, if you remember, Bridget and I left off with asking you to pray for us concerning joining with Helimission. Since then we have received positive feedback from a number of you, encouraging us to move forward in this endeavor.
Shortly after the earthquake in Haiti I was invited to go there with Helimission. Part of their mission statement reads, "Helimission provides fast SOS help to populations affected by such events as famines, floods, earthquakes, etc., in cooperation with other relief organizations." The destruction in Haiti is incomprehensible. They will be a long time in recovering and it was encouraging to see the church very active in addressing the needs there.
A byproduct of my going to Haiti was a confirmation of the desire to be out in the world helping those in remote locations. Bridget let me know in her light-hearted way that I may "not go on any more adventures without her." Believe me, I feel it is a privilege to serve with her and look forward to our next episode.
In light of all this we are moving forward with Helimission. Our next step is attending a Candidate Training Course (CTC) at their headquarters in Switzerland August 23 - 27, 2010. CTC allows both Helimission and us to get to know each other better. We are exposed to a more in depth view of Helimission operations. The chief pilot is available to share expectations relevant to pilots and mechanics. At CTC Bridget and I would very likely find out where we would be needed. After CTC, assuming a green light, we would then attend a cross-cultural course for a term at Elim Bible School in New York.
Between now and then, putting feet to our faith, we are working on getting rid of stuff (also known as possessions). This includes the house, so we have put it on the market. We have some wonderful realtor friends, the Lord has blessed us with, giving insight and recommendations. God led us to this house and we feel He is leading us to sell it.
It would also be good to fly more. This keeps the skills sharp and enables my certification to remain current. Finding work related to helicopters would be great. Helimission, by the way, uses Bell 206 JetRanger and LongRanger aircraft in Indonesia and the AS 350 (Astar) in Africa and Madagascar. Here is a synopsis of things to pray about with us:
- The sale of the house, the related finances, and our working with the realtor.
- Getting rid of stuff. Do you know anyone who needs furniture at a good price?
- For us to not get ahead of the Lord. Courage to move forward as He directs.
- Flight time.
- Your involvement with us in this endeavor.
In His Service,
Paul & Bridget
