When I (Bridget) was younger my older sisters use to pass
their clothing down to me. Before Paul
went into the military he passed his car on to a friend of his. We all, in one
way or another, pass “it” on or benefit from others passing “it” on to us.
Last month Paul and I went on a retreat to relax and review
the last four years in Costa
Rica.
A more experienced missionary couple met with us and passed on some
wisdom and challenged us to write a list of things that would make our ministry
sustainable over the long haul. We are already seeing the returns from taking
their advice.
In September I was talking to some parents in the community and
they said their kids could use some help with English, so I started a class for
high school students on Saturday mornings.
I want to pass on more then grammar and vocabulary in my classes so we always
start by reading a section of the Bible in Spanish and English and then answer
some questions. Last Saturday we read
Genesis 2:18-25 and I took the opportunity to talk about God’s design for the
married couple to leave their families and share everything together in a new
family and that this is to be a picture of the relationship of Christ and the
church (Ephesians 5:31-32).
Bridget returning from her first solo ride. |
Recently Paul has been giving me lessons on how to drive a
four-wheeler that I hope to take to my English classes when the weather is
good. Along with teaching me a skill he
has been passing on his confidence in my ability, and I am finding I actually
enjoy driving it on our dirt roads through the mountains.
Alekcey reviewing the bible lesson. |
Our director, Dr. Alekcey Murillo, has started a bible study
for the community. It has been good for me to attend, get to know some new
people, and learn more Spanish. People
in the community appreciate Alekcey passing on his knowledge and having their
questions answered.
Our best garage sale helper. |
Saturday we had a garage sale for the community to pass on
clothing and other donations. It was a
good time to hang out with folks.
Three people from a university stopped by our mission center
Sunday evening. They asked to take samples of our water for a survey they were
doing. Paul jumped at the chance to have
our water tested. In the course of our
conversation we found out they did not know where they were going to stay that
night, so we invited them to take a hot shower, have dinner, and sleep in our
dorm. We enjoyed passing on our
hospitality and getting to know them.
Passing on hospitality and making new friends |
We’d appreciate your prayers for:
1. Bridget’s English students and Alekcey’s Bible study group
to know the God of the Bible
2. Paul’s plans to replace Centro Emanuel’s roof and update the
electrical system
3. Families adjusting to a new director at Sikua Ditsä
School with 5 weeks ‘til
graduation
Thank you for praying and giving financially so we can pass
on God’s grace and the Good News of the Bible to our neighbors in Costa Rica.
Paul and Bridget
