Fressy and Miguel |
Just like in the US, December is a time for parties,
visiting friends, and family gatherings.
Last Saturday we took Fressy and Julian out to lunch as a way to show
our appreciation for all their work at the mission center. Fressy brought her boyfriend, Miguel, so we
got to know him a little better. Paul
actually introduced the two of them one day when Fressy was cleaning the center
with me (Bridget). Miguel is a baker and
he had stopped by to sell us bread. Paul bought Fressy something to take home
with her and soon after that they were dating.
They recently moved in together.
Julian, Angelina and Roxana |
Julian also brought his girlfriend, Roxana, and daughter, Angelina, with him on
Saturday. At the end of the meal Julian
thanked Paul for the things he had learned while working with him and shared that he
wanted to keep studying the bible together during their lunch breaks.
That same evening we invited a friend, who we have known
since we moved to Costa Rica, but had not seen for a couple of months, over for
dinner. While we were eating dessert he
told us how he has struggled with alcoholism for many years, but then he
started to serve God and everyone in the community saw the changes in his life.
A couple of years ago he took up drinking again and now he has no job, is
having difficulties with his family relationships, and he is in poor health. He
said he knew God loved him and was disciplining him like a disobedient child.
He asked if he could visit us sometimes to read the bible and pray because he
said he felt trapped and could not change by himself. We assured him of our
support, but more importantly assured him that God had not left him and
continued to love him.
Paul and Bridget |
These three people are just snap shots of the spiritual
hunger that exists in the mountains of Costa Rica. God has us here as
ambassadors to demonstrate God’s love in practical ways, pray, and share God’s
Word with people. He is the one who loves them and opens their eyes to their
need for repentance, forgiveness and salvation through His Son, Jesus. Pray for
Fressy, Julian, our friend, and us as we come to mind. And give thanks and
glory to God for all He is doing.
Christmas 2016 in Costa Rica |
Thanks for responding to our Feedback Survey and helping us
improve communication. The 15 responses showed that 93% receive email updates,
100% sufficient ministry information, 96% blog and website donation information
was clear, and 77% no problems donating. We praise God that He continues to provide
everything we need despite a drop in giving.
He is growing our trust in Him as we depend on Him.
May God bless you with his grace and peace. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Paul and Bridget Abbott
