Landing in Costa Rica

Saturday, July 14, we arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica with all our luggage (at the same time!)
Paul landing on the hospital helipad.

Sunday was the inauguration of the helipad here in San Jose, Costa Rica. The helicopter was scheduled to land at 8:30 and then the ribbon cutting. I was just going along for the ride but shortly after take-off the pilot told me to take the controls and so I landed on the heliport without killing anyone. Weather was windy (you may notice the pad looks wet too) so my landing wasn't the best. Had the CEO of the hospital, Clinica Biblica, and another gentleman in the back. Good thing I didn't look at the television camera! Then after the ribbon cutting I did an interview to be shown later on TV and put into a paper. Thanks Lance for reminding me of the importance of doing interviews (they are a little stressful). The rest of the event was made up of speakers and music with a traditional Tico breakfast and visiting. Of course the helicopter was up stairs on display for those who wanted a closer look.

Paul's interview.

Yesterday, Monday, we showed up at the Spanish Language Institute to acquaint ourselves with a few of the administrative staff. The registrar recommended a family for us to stay with that is close to the school. She called and we stopped by our host home for a quick visit with the students living there this summer. There are a number of Christian families in the general vicinity who host students during their time at school. Not only do they provide meals and a bed but often phone and internet. The biggest factor, they speak to you in Spanish (therefore accelerating your learning).

Our current hosts Drs. Alekcey and Judith (with their newborn son, Arron) have been wonderful. We have found the Costa Rican people very friendly and helpful.

Praise the Lord for:
Time with family in Oregon.
Temporary visas granted.
New financial supporters.

Pray for:
Ability to learn Spanish quickly.
Bonding with missionary team and host family.

Serving Him,
Paul & Bridget
