Kelly's Visit

A species of orchid at Emanuel Center.

Our daughter Kelly came to visit us for a couple of weeks in October. We spent a few days relaxing at the beach, went to the National Theater and National Museum in San Jose for a day, and then drove out to Paso Marcos.  She went hiking, drove the 4-wheeler, and drank lots of coffee with our friends and fellow missionaries.  Paul and I (Bridget) enjoyed having her here with us and sharing our world with her.  She is already making plans for another visit.

Progress continues at the Grano de Oro Dental Clinic.  Paul and his worker, Julian, spent a couple of days helping Joel Stoll, ICDI missionary, install cabinets.  The building is close to being ready to use, but funds are still needed to purchase the necessary dental equipment.  Being from the US, I took my dental health care for granted because I could call for an appointment anytime to get my teeth cleaned or repaired.  But here in the mountains of Costa Rica, people can suffer for months with a toothache because the closest dental office is many hours or even days away, the few public health dentists can not meet the high demand for services, and private dentists are expensive. The Grano de Oro Clinic will be meeting a very real need in the lives of people here.

Thank you for praying for the two Cabécar babies with cleft palates and their families. Every two weeks they are being fitted with prosthetics to help close the gap and enable them to nurse. The little girl is making good progress and the boy has started to gain weight. God is faithful to answer prayer.

Back in August, Aero Vital flew the materials intoKableukä for a bridge building project. There was unseasonably good weather Sept. 14-20 for Aero Vital to fly the crew in and for constructing the bridge.  Engineers from Clinica Biblica Hospital, ICDI missionaries, Cabécar leaders, and people from Kableukä and the surrounding communities were divided into teams to build the bridge and improve the trail. Joel Stoll worked with the team building and laying the metal walkway panels.  His wife, Rebekah, cooked and organized activities for the children.  More bridges are needed in the reservation, so Joel is working with the chief engineer from Clinica Biblica Hospital to construct another bridge in a neighboring community.

Thank you for praying, giving, and being a part of helping the people in the mountains of Costa Rica.

Blessings,
Paul and Bridget
